down the rabbit hole

Oy vey team
I know I have barely posted this month and for that I apologize. I have been spending more time in the restaurant than I would prefer, plus I just went home to Michigan last week for a wedding and some other shenanigans I will tell you about later. Though I swear to you that I have been working as diligently as possible, I haven't had much time for photographing, scanning, posting etc,
but anyway, here's something:thats the first of my images derived from that insignia I laboriously sculpted

more to come of course

hanging the Pulp show

Hey team
yesterday at Society of Illustrators we worked on hanging Pulp Art: The Robert Lesser Collection, to go on display later this week.
Let me tell you, it is quite a show.
It has cowboys, aliens, hardboiled detectives, and a lot of dishy 1940's babes about to meet horrible fates. A perfect snapshot of who we were in America in the 30s and 40s.
Here's a couple quick pics for you, obviously they do it no justice so you will have to go see it for yourself.
some pieces awaiting installation

cover illo from a pulp called The Pirate of Wall Street

some of the hardboiled stuff

this piece was one of my favorites. very unusual for a pulp cover. in spite of the dangling corpse it has a Van Gogh/Ukiyo-E flavor to it

I loved this one. Great paint quality, and observe, there is a tiny man being dissected.

poor lass. there is no telling what that nasty cowboy might do to her.

this piece was the cover for a 1941 pulp entitled (I shit you not) JAPS INVADE AMERICA!
