Fringe is now closed, my thoughts

well, team
as anyone who has had to be around me the last month knows, I was in a show that went up for five performances as part of New York International Fringe Festival.

Not just your typical show either, it was The Shelter presents This is a Play About Artists, written by my beloved Ginger Kearns. It was a 1 hour comedy-adjacent play for 4 actors: Ginger as Narrator, Michael Kingsbaker as Poet, myself as Painter, and Shane LaRue as Musician.
It was such a beautiful opportunity for me to have it all. I got to be on stage painting, showing off how fast and how confidently I could throw ink, and to occasionally turn to the audience and deliver a line to get them laughing.
What Ginger wrote for this show was funny and honest and beautiful and touching and I was honored to be a part of it, and honored to have been asked.
part of the show involved a moment where Ginger would take a seat and pose and continue delivering lines while I would paint her right there, live on stage in real time. It was CRAY-ZAY because it allowed me approximately 4 minutes total to do it but it came off beautifully each show and the audiences loved it.
Each night after the show the paintings went home with someone different. Ginger's mom got one, Dave Lankford of The Shelter got one, and this is the one I got to keep (in my opinion the most successful) from the Saturday August 17th performance.

Although Fringe Festival is now over there is a chance there may be future life for Play About Artists, and if and when I will of course let you know
much love, team

thursdays at The Refinery

so team,
these days I am not only sketching in Parker & Quinn on thursday nights, but bouncing around between the Refinery hotel's three venues, Winnie's (the classy lounge) and the Refinery Rooftop (beautiful!)

i learned something while drawing this about Lautrec, who has always been one of my all-time favorites. I tried to impersonate his style in the past and realized he wasn't just using style when he created his images, he was just telling the visual truth about busy nightlife, just recording what he saw without trying to control it too much

oh well hello there! It's Alan Winner!
